Shelter for blind and pregnant rapunzel
$0 Raised
Hooves of Hope Animal Rescue and Rehabilitation is a Nebraska nonprofit dedicated to giving horses, ponies, donkeys, goats, and other small farm animals a safe place to heal, recover, and find hope. Our Give Where You Live campaign will help us continue providing food, veterinary care, farrier care, medication, shelter, fencing, and daily care for animals that have been neglected, surrendered, abandoned, or are simply in need of a second chance.
One of our most urgent current needs is a safe winter maternity shelter for Rapunzel, our rescued miniature horse. Rapunzel is pregnant and has significant vision loss, which makes preparing a secure, protected area for her and her future foal especially important. Nebraska winters can be extremely cold, windy, and unpredictable, so we need to create a warm, dry maternity area where Rapunzel can safely give birth and care for her baby.
Funds raised through Give Where You Live will help us purchase materials and supplies for Rapunzel’s winter maternity ward, including shelter materials, bedding, safe fencing and panels, lighting, feeding supplies, and other panels, lighting, feeding supplies, and other items needed to make the area safe for both mare and foal. Because of Rapunzel’s limited vision, the maternity area must also be carefully designed to reduce hazards and allow her to move around safely.
Another major ongoing need is the care of Toby, our rescued Percheron. Toby has asthma/heaves, a chronic respiratory condition that requires special management. He cannot simply be cared for like a healthy horse on a normal feeding routine. His breathing condition requires a specialized feeding and forage plan, careful management of dust and allergens, regular monitoring, and medications to help keep him comfortable and breathing well.
Toby’s special feed, forage, supplements, medications, veterinary visits, and daily care are much more expensive than routine horse care. Donations help us continue purchasing the supplies he needs and allow us to follow our veterinarian's recommendations for his care.
Every animal that comes to Hooves of Hope has a different story. Some arrive underweight, injured, elderly, or with ongoing medical needs. Others come from owners who love them but arehis veterinary treatment plan. Toby has made improvements with proper care, but his condition requires ongoing attention. Supporting our Give Where You Live campaign helps us continue giving Toby the specialized care he needs while also caring for the other animals at the rescue.
Donations through Give Where You Live will also support the everyday needs that keep our rescue operating. Feed and forage are among our largest expenses, especially throughout the winter. Veterinary care can include examinations, bloodwork, dental care, medications, emergency treatment, and follow-up appointments. Farrier services are essential for keeping horses, ponies, and donkeys comfortable and mobile.
We receive calls and requests for help every week from people who can no longer afford to care for their animals. Drought and rising hay prices have made it even harder for many families to keep their horses and other animals. Your support helps us care for Mimi and surrenders and rescues like her to keep providing a safe place for animals in need.
Many of our animals require much more than routine care. We have cared for animals with respiratory problems, vision loss, mobility issues, neglected hooves, and other conditions requiring special feed, medications and care.
Our mission is to rescue, rehabilitate, and provide a safe, loving home for horses and other farm animals in need. We promote responsible animal care through education, community outreach, and opportunities for people of all ages to connect with animals.
