Serving more than 500 participants from age 6 to 16 each year, Kearney Little League is a program of service to youth that is geared to provide an outlet of healthful activity and training, under good leadership, in the atmosphere of wholesome community participation. The Little League movement challenges players towards the perfection of physical skills, and establishes the values of teamwork, sportsmanship, and fair play. It is dedicated to helping children become good and decent citizens.
Little League was organized in 1939, in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. Kearney joined the growing national trend in 1952, when Kearney Little League was awarded its first charter. Little League Baseball has been a continuous part of the youth activities landscape in our community ever since, with 2026 being our 75th season!
Youth baseball has thrived in Kearney for many years, and Little League is the lynchpin to the success. All children in Kearney are able to participate, be they tall or short; fast or slow; boy or girl; early or late bloomers. In spite of the low financial barrier to entry (less than $100 per player), scholarships are available which help assure that EVERY child in our community who wants to play baseball CAN play baseball in the Little League program. Donations to this year's Give Where You Live campaign will fund the ongoing operation and will be used to benefit local players. Kearney Little League is run by a 29-member all-volunteer board, and there are no paid employees. Expenses are limited to uniforms, equipment, umpires, and charter/insurance fees.
