Buffalo County Historical Society/Trails & Rails Museum
The Trails & Rails Museum has six historic buildings to tour through, plus a livery barn, the JC Marlatt blacksmith shop, and a Union Pacific steam engine and caboose. Phase 1 of the new Family History Center opened in July 2017 and houses the archival material, the front desk, gift shop, and offices for the Buffalo County Historical Society/Trails & Rails Museum. There is also a small area for rotating displays. The BCHS mission is to preserve and share Buffalo County's vast history!
710 W 11th Street
Kearney, NE 68845
Donations received from the 2018 Give Where You Live event will go towards the new Textile Tales display, unless otherwise noted. 'Textile Tales' will be a newly revamped space in the former archive building for the display and proper storage of all textiles BCHS is stewards of. This included quilts, clothing, and all material artifacts. Other suggested designations would include Phase 2 donations, funding for the 10th Street project, BCHS special events, and/or to the BCHS general fund.
Donations may be brought to the museum that day or you can pay on-line at https://givewhereyoulive.net/Buffalo-County-Historical-Society. All checks have to be made out to the Kearney Area Community Foundation, dated December 6, and have "Buffalo County Historical Society" on the memo line. BCHS board members are willing to pick up donations from people who cannot come to the Trails & Rails Museum. BCHS appreciates your support and we look forward to continuing to serve you by being stewards of Buffalo County's vast history!
