As you may not know, one of Rotary's 7 Areas of Focus is "Supporting Education". Our overarching goal is to fortify communities in their endeavors to provide basic education and literacy, mitigate gender disparities in education, and amplify literacy rates for both children and adults across the globe.

With this mission at heart, this will be our 19th consecutive year, that Kearney Dawn Rotary will be providing an individual dictionary to EVERY 3rd Grade student in Buffalo County schools. Since our inception in 2005, we've believed in the transformative power of words and the potential of every student to thrive when given the right tools and proudly have distributed over 10,000 dictionaries!

Inspired by the Dictionary Project's vision, we see these dictionaries not just as books, but as bridges to becoming proficient writers, avid readers, imaginative thinkers, and enterprising learners. Especially considering the crucial academic transition that the third grade represents, from "learning to read" to "reading to learn", these dictionaries serve as invaluable companions in every child's educational journey. Together, we can continue to shape the minds of our young learners, equipping them for a brighter, more literate future.

Dictionaries are presented at school by Kearney Dawn members. Students each receive their own dictionary. Teachers incorporate dictionaries into the daily curriculum, becoming a valuable teaching tool to strengthen every student's English language skills.
