Kearney Rail Viewing Platform

About This Organization

Seizing the Opportunity

The idea of a train viewing platform has appeared in past Kearney comprehensive plans, but now is the time to make it a reality. Kearney sits along one of the busiest freight rail corridors in the world, with an average of 75 trains passing through each day. Our location offers railfans from across the globe a safe, convenient, and exciting place to watch and experience rail traffic firsthand.

This grassroots effort already has wide community support. Partners include Old Town, Downtown Kearney, the Buffalo County Historical Society, the UNK History Department, the Kearney Visitors Bureau, and the Kearney Chamber of Commerce, among others. The City of Kearney has endorsed exploring the project at the unused site east of Kearney Junction Park-but we need your help to bring it to life.

This location is where Kearney began, making it the perfect place to share our story. A rail viewing platform would complement the area's rich lineup of transportation-themed attractions-Trails and Rails, the Kearney Archway, the American Automobile Experience, and Pioneer Village-further strengthening Kearney's role as a destination for history, culture, and travel.
