The Central Nebraska LOSS Team of Kearney was created to assist families after a loved one has died by suicide. The LOSS Team provides compassion, support and information about available resources to members of the community. Our mission is to provide hope and healing for newly bereaved as they begin their journey of moving forward. Suicide survivors are those who have a loved one complete suicide. They may be at risk due to their emotional response, including unhealthy coping or attempts.
LOSS is Local Outreach to Suicide Survivors. The Central Nebraska Chapter began in May 2014 with co-coordinators Dave Griek and Renae Zimmer. We formed as an outreach, or first responder, group to help people who lost a loved one from suicide. We have about 20 members of our LOSS team made up of survivors as well as mental health practitioners.
Testimonials
"Almost 2 years ago, my family's lives changed forever. My husband, my children's father, ended his life as a result of his mental illness. The Central NE LOSS Team reached out right away. They came and sat with us and offered help in any way they could. It was comforting knowing that they had all been affected by the same situation we were dealing with. They understood what we were going through. I know that I can reach out to them any time I need to. This group has done good things for our area. They are a great resource and I hope that they can continue to grow and spread more awareness." - Callie Meier
